I had the honor of joining as a panelist, sharing the stage with some incredible minds: Dragan Josifovski from Paket, Rrita Reka MBA, and Maggie Stancheva, skillfully moderated by Kami Kosharova.
One of the questions I was asked was: “How do you see the Balkans in 3-5 years?”
My answer was simple, and I believe it deeply:
A Balkan where all startups are mapped, connected, and collaborating without borders. Because let’s be honest, our region is too small, too fragmented, too regulated at every corner to try to compete individually. But together? Together we can create a force big enough to matter on a global stage.
This idea aligned beautifully with what Blagica Eftimova from Swiss EP - Swiss Entrepreneurship Program discussed earlier and I just painted the bigger picture. A future where Skopje, Tirana, Prishtina, Sofia, Belgrade, Sarajevo, and Zagreb act not as isolated islands but as one regional innovation engine.

The summit brought panels filled with startups that are actively shaping the future. Among them was a standout: Nick Velkovski and HeyReach.io, a living example of how a Balkan startup can build a globally competitive product by focusing on real problems, real users, and world-class execution. Their presence at the summit was a reminder that you don’t need to leave the region to build something that scales, you just need vision, discipline, and the courage to ship.

We also saw an amazing lineup of founders and builders from the country and across the region: Ilija Ivanovski, Gorjan Jovanovski, Svetlana Kordumova, Dime Galapchev, Dimitar Chukovski, Katerina Mingovska CPM, Emil Tabakov, Bojan Matovski, Peter Bruner🚪📲, Romana Jocic, Stjepan Zelić, Ralitsa Ivanova, Nikola Sokolov, Marko Scepanovic, Nikola Bubevski ☑, Jerry Naumoff, Kevin Chavanne, Chrysovalantis (Val) D. Koutsoumpos, Boban Milosavleski, Marjan Nikolovski, Ivan Zografski, Vladeta Radovanovic, Elena Kostoska, Igor Georgioski, Damjan Dano - the kind of people who don’t wait for “conditions to improve,” but improve the conditions themselves.
Special appreciation goes to Igor Madjov, who continue to be a key connector in the region, especially when it comes to pitching, feedback, and bridging startups with investors. Every conversation with Igor leaves you with two things:
We need more people like that.
Then there was the “Google guy” Zaid Nabulsi, bringing global perspective, structure, and a refreshing push for higher standards. And Francesca Hodgson, MBA, whose presence and insights brought a new layer of depth to the conversations.
One of the best parts? Recording a podcast episode on-site with Milan Savov, capturing raw thoughts, stories, and energy while it was happening. We need more documentation like this. More open discussions. More shared experiences.
Big shout-out to people like: Vasko Karangeleski, Eli Zhabevska, Gogo Rafajlovski, Zico Ufuk Batum, Ravik Mima, Belizar Marinov, Vladimir Trajkovik, Milena Milić, Günce Önür, Riste Mise and many more, the kind of faces you always see when something important is happening in the ecosystem. The ones who lift others up. The ones who simply show up and that matters more than we all admit.
Because the truth is:
We need more of these events. More moments where we sit together, not as Macedonian, Albanian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Bosnian, or Croatian founders, but as Balkan founders.
This was the first summit of its kind… yet it already raised the bar for how a regional event should look, feel, and deliver value. And if this is the starting point? Then thefuture of the Balkan startup ecosystem is far brighter than any of us dare to admit.

If anyone still wonders: “Can you build something big from the Balkans?”
The answer is no longer an opinion. It’s no longer a motivational quote. It’s no longer a wish.
It’s proof.
And Skopje just provided it.
